An engineering marvel 20 years in the making, the Konkan Railway is a 741-kilometer-long route connecting Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka.

From Mumbai to Mangalore, the Konkan Railway covers some of the most scenic rail routes in India, passing through serene rivers, gorgeous valleys, and awe-inspiring mountains.

Since the complete rail line was opened in 1998, passenger traffic (and trains) on this route has steadily been increasing, with services extended into Kerala, and now the Konkan Railways serve 1000s of passengers every single day.

While the Konkan Railway has been a welcome addition to India’s rail network, the increased passenger traffic on this line also means increased strain on the infrastructure at all stations along the route.

With more and more people using the Konkan Railway every day, facilities at all stations are under severe strain. As is the case with most public places that see a large number of footfalls, sanitation becomes increasingly challenging.

Generally, toilets at railway stations across India are disproportionate to the number of people that use them, resulting in invariably overcrowded toilets and all the attendant issues that go with them.

Konkan Railways had set up biotoilets at several stations to ensure hygienic sanitation facilities for all passengers.

However, overburdened toilets with minimal maintenance were proving to be a bigger challenge. Such was the case at Chiplun, too, when we were approached for a solution.

The toilets here had never been treated before, leading to massive sludge accumulation and resulting in overflow and untreated water leaking out of the closet.

The toilets were stinking, and leakages were helping the growth of pathogens in and around the toilets.

Stagnant water was also helping mosquitoes thrive, posing a dangerous public health hazard.

People also used the toilets to dump lots of waste – plastic bottles, paper, food wrappers, and similar stuff – that shouldn’t be disposed of in toilets in any case.

Added to this was the untreated wastewater leaking out, carrying all manners of toxic pathogens affecting the health of people and the surrounding environment.

Apart from the condition of the toilets, another area in which our help was sought was to minimise the hard stains over the toilet seats and all over the railway platforms.

We started the treatment of the biotoilets with Bioclean BD. First, we mixed Bioclean BD with water and flushed this down the toilets to unclog the drain pipes and send all bacteria into the biodigester tank.

We had different treatment protocols for the two compartments of the biodigester tank.

In the first compartment, there was a lot of waste, like plastic bottles and food wrappers, and we used a more concentrated mixture of Bioclean BD to treat this compartment.

The second compartment had only organic wast,e and we used a slightly more diluted mix of Bioclean BD here.

The results started to show almost instantly. Within 10 days, all the sludge in the second compartment had fully broken down, and the water quality showed significant improvement, too.

Over 3 months, our treatment ensured fecal sludge was reduced by 5 feet, and all foul odours in the vicinity were eliminated.

Water clarity was improved, too, with COD values reducing by nearly 65%. TDS was reduced by nearly 50%, and TSS was reduced by 43%. Even TVS values were down 71%.

Simultaneously, we also started treatment for the stains.

The toilet seats were covered with black stains, and we started treating them with Bioswitch Hard Stain Remover four times a day.

This treatment, followed by a simple scrubbing with water, successfully removed all black stains from the toilet seats.

A lot of the stains on the floors and the walls were paan stains from people happily spitting on them.

Gödöllő is a small town in Hungary, not too far from Budapest.

Home to less than 40,000 people, Gödöllő counts several famous citizens amongst its residents, including former prime ministers, tennis players, footballers, physicians, and mathematicians.

Like most small towns, all domestic waste is treated by the civic administration in  Gödöllő too.

Our client, the municipal wastewater treatment plant in  Gödöllő, was dealing with several issues when they approached us for a solution.

The plant was not running as efficiently as it could, generating excess sludge and consuming far too much energy in operations. Dissolved oxygen levels, too, were not optimal.

Our experts studied the data and established the following goals:

  • Reduction of the blower’s power consumption by biotechnological optimization of the activated sludge
  • Reduction of excess sludge quantity

A farmer from Murtizapur, Akola, he has been farming for nearly 20 years and has his own 4-acre piece of land.

He grows soybeans in the Kharif season, followed by the Bengal gram in the Rabi season.

Times, however, are tough in the entire Vidarbha region, as they have been for many years now.

Severe drought spells, rapid climate change, and declining soil quality have consistently reduced crop yields and quality.

The frequent bouts of disease outbreaks haven’t helped matters for farmers in the region either.

After several legendary years of drought and extreme weather, Vidarbha saw extremely heavy rainfall this year, which is not good news for our farmer friends.

Extreme rainfall can cause as much damage as a spell of drought can. Leaching of nutrients from topsoil, water logging, and impaired root development are some of the problems caused by extreme rainfall.

Mr. Maley, too, faced many problems with his soyabean crop.

Yellowing of leaves, poor flowering, flower dropping, and weak branching all combined to portend extremely poor yields for him this season.

As luck would have it, though, Mr. Maley met our field staff at the local distributor, who recommended Magic Gro Super as an SOS treatment for his crop.

Mr. Maley began with one spray of Magic Gro Super, concentrated at 250 gm/acre, on the entire 4 acres of his soyabean plot. In just 15 days, he saw amazing results.

The leaves had transitioned from a yellowish-green to a much darker green, indicative of improved photosynthetic efficiency.

Wastewater Treatment That Leaves Your ETP Smelling of Roses

Our clients, one of India’s top manufacturers of organic and aromatic chemicals, essential oils, and perfumery chemicals, have a plant in Gujarat.

They had been dealing with colour issues in their effluent when they approached us for a solution.

Along with the colour in their effluent, they also wanted biosolutions for COD/BOD reduction and odour removal.

They were using a specific dye as a catalyst in their manufacturing process.

This dye, with a pinkish to brownish color under alkaline conditions, was the primary reason for the color in their effluent.

Until then, they had been using chemical-based solutions for wastewater treatment, and the results were not effective.

We recommended treatment with Cleanmaxx to resolve all issues at their wastewater treatment plant.

Cleanmaxx is a consortium of 76-90 different strains of microbes that help in the effective reduction of wastewater parameters.

These microbes are isolated from soil and secrete enzymes that are natural and safe.

Our research indicated that CleanMaxx FOG was the best solution for this particular effluent.

And the results bore this out.

Within 15 days of Cleanmaxx addition, the intensity of colour in the effluent started diminishing.

Within two months, the colour was completely removed from the effluent.

Foul odour resulting from organic load in the effluent was a nuisance for the treatment plant.

Wastewater odour is most often associated with hydrogen sulphide and ammonia.

The microbes in Cleanmaxx do not cause putrefaction during the degradation process and also enhance the rate at which ammonia is converted into nitrite and subsequently into nitrate, eliminating the release of ammonia gas.

A significant reduction in odour was noticed within 5 days of introducing Cleanmaxx, and by 20 days, the odour was completely eliminated.

COD levels, too, were reduced by 97% using Cleanmaxx.
