Portable Toilet FAQs: All You Need To Know About Portable Toilets

Share

Millions of people in India do not have sanitation infrastructure or toilet facilities due to low income and water scarcity issues.

This leads to open defecation practices, which eventually cause public health hazards, water contamination, and environmental pollution.

In rural and urban areas with sanitation facilities, poor faecal management, disposal mechanisms, and lack of connectivity to waste treatment plants are major concerns.

Portable toilets, also known as bio-toilets can help in overcoming this challenge in India.

With Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the government, innovators, and the people have come together to solve the sanitation and waste problem in India.

Organica Biotech is a leading company that provides a wide range of advanced solutions for sanitation management.

It includes BIOCLEAN Bio-toilet – A high-performance, effective, and efficient Superstructure; BIOCLEAN BIODIGESTER – A biodigester system; and BIOCLEAN BD – an environment-friendly enzyme-based biodigester tank treatment solution.

Find out all you need to know about Portable Toilets below.

What is a Portable Toilet?

A portable toilet is a makeshift unit that consists of key components such as a toilet seat, a holding tank, a pressure system and a formulation that helps in the degradation of waste.

Portable toilets, as the name indicates, can be easily shifted from one place to another.

Thus, they can be used at construction sites, schools, colleges, highways, hill stations, and places where conventional toilets cannot be installed.

How Do Portable Toilets Work?

Human waste is collected in the holding tank. The tank usually consists of different mechanisms to actively degrade the waste received and to prevent odour.

Once the degradation process is complete, the waste is manually removed or disposed of through a waste disposal mechanism.

However, improper waste management, transportation, and disposal are major concerns. To solve this problem, bio-toilets can be used.

How Do Bio-toilets Work?

Similar to general portable toilets, bio-toilets are designed with a toilet seat and holding tank.

However, bio-toilets use bio-digester technology for the treatment of human excreta in the holding tank.

Moreover, the tank contains anaerobic microbes, which help in the degradation of organic human waste in the absence of air.

As a result, harmless by-products such as carbon dioxide, methane, and water are produced, which can be used as biogas or as an energy source for cooking or electricity.

What are Organica Biotech’s Portable Toilets made of?

Organica Biotech’s portable toilets or bio-toilets are made of fiber-reinforced plastic, unplasticized polyvinyl chloride, pre-cast concrete, and pre-painted galvanized iron.

What are the features of Organica Biotech’s Bioclean Biodigester Tank?

Organica Biotech’s biodigester tank consists of three compartments. The first is used for the separation of solids and liquids.

Also, this compartment contains a special microbial community that degrades organic waste.

The rest of the compartments are used for further degradation of human waste, giving harmless byproducts.

What is the role of Organica Biotech’s Bioclean BD in Portable Toilet?

Organica Biotech’s Bioclean BD is a natural, effective, and efficient enzyme-based solution that helps decompose human waste and supports maintaining water quality.

Is it possible to shift the Portable Toilet to another location after installation?

As Organica Biotech’s portable toilet is lightweight, it can be easily dismantled and shifted to another location.

Can Chemicals Be Used in the Portable Toilet for Cleaning Purposes?

It is recommended to avoid using chemicals for cleaning since they are highly corrosive and possess anti-microbial characteristics, affecting the performance of the microbial community necessary for the decomposition process.

Organica Biotech develops eco-friendly and sustainable products and solutions always. You can use water or organic and natural cleaning products.

Where Can Portable Toilets Be Used?

Portable toilets, as mentioned before, can be used in a wide range of places, such as construction sites, parks, gardens, slums, schools, colleges, bus stands, camping, railway stations, pilgrim locations, defense locations, and mining areas.

Portable toilets can work as a  temporary as well as permanent sanitation solution anywhere in India.

Can Organica Biotech’s Biodigester Tank Be Used in Slums With Low Space?

For a family with five members, a 300-litre biodigester tank with a size of 3 ft X 3ft X 1.5 ft takes less space and can be installed easily.

  2. It’s interesting to know that some chemicals are responsible for keeping portable toilets clean. My husband is looking for portable toilet services soon because he will be launching a charity event with some of his friend soon. It will be held at the local park so there wouldn’t be nearby toilets for the event.
